Learning vocabulary requires you to grasp the precise meaning of the word, its synonyms, its varied meaning in the context – which means that learning vocabulary is about deep understanding of each word.

Here below are few tips which will help you learn and improve your Spanish vocabulary effectively.

Have a commitment to regularly learn new words: Vocabulary, making up the biggest part of learning a language, needs more commitment and time towards learning it. Especially if you are a Spanish beginner, it is essential for you to adopt a consistent and dedicated approach towards building vocabulary. The good thing is, after developing a large vocabulary, you will continue to learn new words from practical usage, whether you work at it continuously or not.

Learn words along with their pronunciation and context of usage: Words exist in context. Words are used to get your ideas and thoughts across effectively. The meaning of words vary from context to context. Further, knowing the exact meaning of a word is no way beneficial when you do not know how to use it. Therefore, learning vocabulary is not about blindly memorizing the exact meaning of the word; it’s about learning it along with its context.

While learning words, learn them completely – learn both the pronunciation and know the context of usage. Both of these aspects of a word make it easy for you to use them in your everyday communication, either in the form of speech or in writing.

Get to know the most commonly used words first: Though the dictionary has a wide variety of words and every word in the dictionary is useful at one point or another in your life, don’t rush to learn all the words in the dictionary at once.

The right approach towards building Spanish vocabulary is to learn the most commonly used Spanish words first, as they are generic, simple and easy to remember due to their high frequency of usage. They can also be quickly learned as you can put them to use immediately as you learn – this helps with retention. Equipped with commonly used words, you will be able to communicate in Spanish at the basic level and then gradually advance to the next levels.

Listen and read through varied Spanish resources: Listening and reading through varied resources, you will encounter more new words and also get exposed to different usages of words. Don’t just limit yourself to Spanish text books or novels; try your hand at reading Spanish magazines, newspapers, comics, etc., and also listening to public lectures, radio broadcasts and news in Spanish. This sharpens your general and subject-specific vocabulary.

Also, reading through varied Spanish resources facilitates explicit and implicit learning. Various instances, conversations and thoughts help you to learn the new words either explicitly (by stopping while reading and getting to know the meaning of the word through standard resources) or implicitly (by deriving the meaning of the word from the context while continuing with the flow of the reading).

Read quality writing: Instead of directly hitting the dictionaries or vocabulary books, first read through quality written works. Quality writing is simplified writing. It is characterized by the right usage of a word. It is common for people to show off their word power by using esoteric, large and complex words irrespective of their need or context, but the quality of writing is not judged by its complex word usage, but by the usage of every word (big or small) in the right context.

Learn vocabulary based on themes: Learning vocabulary based on themes can greatly help you in accumulating a greater number of Spanish words in your memory.

Various themes exist such as travel, home, business, animals, history, biology, astronomy, etc. And every theme has a set of Spanish words which are relevant and connected to each other and to the theme. For instance, take the theme of familia (family). The various Spanish words that can be grouped under this theme are madre (mother), padre (father), hijo (son), hija (daughter), hermano (brother), hermana (sister), etc.,

Learn cognates and false cognates in English and Spanish: Learning cognates and false cognates in Spanish and English is also an easy way to remember words. As both Spanish and English are evolved from Latin, they have many words which are common in structure and meaning called cognates (Eg: “original” is the same in both Spanish and English). Exemptions are called false cognates (Eg: ‘carpeta’ may look like a typical English word, carpet, but in Spanish it means “folder”).

Make use of flash cards – play vocabulary games: Flashcards are the most common tools used to learn vocabulary. One can use flash cards in different ways – writing the textual meaning of words or by drawing pictures or by using various colors for various themes of words.

Vocabulary games are the most fun, interactive and interesting way to learn vocabulary. They are educational and intriguing and help in learning the meaning as well as the right and different usages of a word. Some good vocabulary games are crosswords, puzzles, word jumble, scrabble, anagrams, antonyms, etc.

Start your blog or join writing groups: Personal relevance is an effective way of remembering a word as this helps relate the learned words to the respective situations in our life. So stop blindly memorizing the words and start speaking your views in friends’ groups or start your blog or join writing blogs.

Building vocabulary is not just about how many words you know – it is about how well you know the words. Don’t learn Spanish words for the sake of learning but so that you can properly express yourself.

1. Set your main message and objective – Before making your first slides, ask yourself what is the main message you would like to convey in this presentation? If you had only 2 minutes to present, write down what is it you would have to say. This is your main message. What would you like to happen as a result of this presentation (your objective)? Answer to this question should fit in one sentence and be measurable. At the end of your presentation, or a certain period after, you should be able to determine if your effort was effective by looking back at the objective you set. If the client you presented to bought your product, or if you managed to get funding for your project after presenting it to potential funders – the effectiveness of your presentation is evident.

2. Analyse your audience – who are you presenting to? If your audience is a group of students, it is more likely they will appreciate a balance of academic data presented in a combination of textual and visual slides. On the other hand, if your audience is a group of IT experts, they would most probably prefer a more schematic presentation. How much does your audience know? It would be ineffective to present world continents to an audience of geography teachers. In general, you should always know more than your audience about the topic you are presenting. Why do they want to listen about this topic? Find the real reasons behind your audience attending your presentation and mention it in the first three slides to keep their interest.

3. Make your data relevant and interesting – telling your audience what they already know will not keep their attention for long. Your data should always be relevant, new, and – at times – shocking. It’s best to present short extracts of most interesting data, and then go on to explain it in more detail. For example, in a presentation on corporate communication effectiveness, try starting with: Did you know that a recent survey on e-mail habits found “Reply all” e-mails to be the most hated e-mail practice for over 35% of users in US? And we all thought it was spam we hated most, right? Then go on to explain why “Reply-all” e-mails are something we should use with a caution.

4. Organise your messages – your presentation should follow a few lines of ideas based around the main message you want to convey. Determine the best order for your ideas, then go on to elaborate by supporting them with textual and visual elements. Sometimes it’s best to write full sentences on paper before transferring them into PowerPoint bullet points and visual elements. Whatever order you decide to present your ideas in, always fit your presentation in the general framework of three main parts: an introduction, the main body, and conclusion. Your introduction should tell the audience what you are about to tell them (approximately 10% of your presentation time). The main body should present what you just announced you will be presenting (80%) and the conclusion should tell – in short – what you just told them (10%). Although it may sound like repeating yourself, it is the most effective way to ensure your audience leaves with a clear picture of what they just heard.

5. Use visual elements – Imagine reading daily newspapers without any images, listening to a blockbuster action movie without any video, or taking painting lessons from a recorded audio book? Without visual elements, all three would be rather difficult to understand, and you would most probably lose interest pretty quickly. A recent research on audiences found that on average, after a presentation a human remembers 7% of what was written on the slides, 38% of what was said by the presenter, and 55% of what visual elements they are shown during the presentation. No wonder we say a picture tells a thousand words. Use images, graphs, diagrams, short comics and video clips to make your presentation visually more appealing. It will awake different senses within your audience and keep them interested right through to the end. Depending on your audience, it is recommended to use a visual element once every four slides.

6. Leave a good personal impression – what you wear and how you present your work is also a part of the visual elements your audience will remember. A presentation for your business partners will most probably require a suit and a tie, with appropriate (clean) shoes. On the other hand, a presentation of a new medicine to a group of physicians will require a more authoritative, medical practice attire, that will bring you closer to your target audience.

Standing in front of your audience, make sure you keep eye contact with the key people you recognize as being active listeners. Make sure you check you speak loud enough at the beginning so everyone can hear you even in the back rows, then keep the same tone right to the end. To make sure your audience pays attention continuously, the tone of your voice should change throughout the presentation, often during the same sentence.

Give everyone a chance to put their questions forward, and should any come-up, make sure you answer them openly. In every instance, listen to the question carefully, looking straight at the person asking it to acknowledge you are paying full attention. Then make a pause, rephrase the question, and repeat it to the whole audience. Make sure you answer what was asked and keep the answer within the topic of the presentation.

We hope our advice will help you make great presentations in future.

Good luck!

While a learner beginning to learn Spanish may feel comfortable with grammar, as the concepts of Spanish grammar are limited and straightforward, he may find it tedious to learn Spanish vocabulary, due to the vastness and depth of vocabulary.

Batman is a popular fancy dress choice, and also one of the most famous comic book characters in the history of comics. With no superhero powers, Batman manages to defeat crime and the villains with only his excellent intellectual ability, detective skills, science and technology, martial arts skills and more. This particular superhero was created by Bob Kane who was the artist behind this revolutionary creation and Bill Finger who produced the words for the whole story-line.

Also given many other names such as ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The World’s Greatest Detective’, Batman has been a huge hit in the comic world since his instantaneous popularity when his story was published in 1939. His secret identity, Bruce Wayne, had this urge to beat criminals when he witnessed the murder of his parents as a child – which is when the motivation sprang to train both physically and intellectually to defeat the bad guys.

Batman is such an inspirational and favourable character due to the fact that behind the costume he is just a regular man, he may be strong and intelligent, but he is regular. This means that whenever somebody puts this costume on at a fancy dress party they feel like a regular man in an indestructible costume. This particular comic book character also brings nostalgia for adults as they may have grown up reading about Batman in comic books and being completely inspired by him.

What you can expect when purchasing a Batman costume is his full superhero outfit along with the mask, the cape and everything else that comes with it – even the abs!! These are suitable for both adults and children for a wide variety of fancy dress occasions including themed book days and Halloween.

If you enjoy the Batman comics but you would rather go as his much loved crime-fighting partner Robin then you can do so quite as easily. Robin is well-known as being Batman’s sidekick and you and a friend could even connect your costumes together to dress as the crime fighting duo. A costume of this nature would potentially consist of the full suit and the well-known mask.

Alternatively, The Joker could be the one for you if you want to be a villain for the night. You can either imitate The Joker simply to pay respect to Heath Ledger who played him in the latest Batman film or you can simply just fancy pretending to be evil for a day! This particular costume can be fun as you can use face paints yourself to make it completely unique to you.

Speaking of villains, there are also many women’s outfits that can be worn with the Batman theme such as Catwoman and Poison Ivy or go on the good side with Batgirl. There is simply so many to choose from!

Want Facebook Avatar Creators and need a program or want personal help creating your Avatar?

Let’s first look at, how important an avatar is these days. The development on the internet progresses fast, policies on Google, Facebook and other Social Media change constantly, but pictures stay, they actually seem to become increasingly important for the interest you get online.

T he profile picture your visitors see and remember first on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and the many other social Media places is your Avatar. While a photography of you is “just” a picture, an avatar is a presented graphical mix of what you personally or your business stands for now or dream of standing for.

The avatar represents this way, in one shot, what you and/or your business is standing for.

If you choose an avatar as your presentation photo it is important to present a quality avatar that as well as possible at a glance tells how you want people to think about you: That is your story or your business story.

Pictures are increasingly important in social media – not any picture but pictures telling a story at first glance, not any story either but a relevant story.

On top of that it seems that “normal” people presenting anything, even on video, have become so boring and artificial that visitors online prefer watching fast doodling on their screen instead of a visible, live person.

As technology drastically is changing how we communicate who we are I also started finding places online where you for free can create this virtual persona, the avatar.

I am not a very technical person and was very skeptical when I found some free avatar creators I could use.

Surprise, in a few minutes I made my first Avatar with a very simple program from “Face Your Manga.” The next 15 minutes I found more programs and made two more totally different avatars, one with amctv.com and a program called madmenyourself and another with Osoq.com

I must admit it was a lot of fun!

Then it was time for South Park Studios and free Yahoo – that doesn’t work for me and some other programs neither as they cost money for limited possibilities and some also want to keep the

Amazon fired back today and announced it also has Netflix, Pandora, as well as a number of other apps. This shortens the list of advantages that Nook claims it has over the Kindle. Nook still has a small advantage since it offers Hulu Plus and more storage, but probably not enough to make it worth the extra $50.

The Kindle Fire will come with lots of apps. These apps include Facebook, Pandora, Netflix, Rhapsody, Twitter, Comics by comiXology, The Weather Channel, and select games from Zynga, EA, Gameloft, PopCap, and Rovio. The Kindle also supports more book formats (Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively, DOC, DOCX, Audible), while the Nook only supports EPUB, PDF, DOC, TXT, DOCM, and DOCX.

“We started talking to app developers everywhere the day we introduced Kindle Fire, and the response has been overwhelming,” Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. “In addition to over 18 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, and magazines from Amazon, we are excited to offer customers thousands of apps and games to choose from on Kindle Fire-from Pandora and Rhapsody to Facebook and Twitter to Netflix, as well as popular games from EA, Zynga and many other top game developers. And this is only the beginning-we’re adding more apps and games every day across all categories.”

Which tablet do you want? I am aiming toward the Amazon Kindle Fire. I have the 2nd Generation Kindle now and love it. I am hoping that the Kindle tablet due out in early 2012 will have a camera and be more along the lines of the iPad2. I am reluctant to consider the Nook due to the precarious position of Barnes & Noble filing bankruptcy. What about you? Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet?
